- Rinse lentils with cold water. Put them in a large pot and cover with 8 cups cold water. Add bay leaves. Bring to boil, lower heat, and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Add garlic, onion, carrots and celery. Cook until vegetables are tender (about 30 minutes).
- Add tomatoes and cumin, stir well, and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove bay leaves before serving.
